Theme 2: Deliberation in Practice

Delivering ‘net zero’ from a household perspective

The CCC is preparing its advice to the UK Government and Devolved Administrations on the UK’s Seventh Carbon Budget, for the period 2038-2042. We rely on a broad range of evidence to set emissions targets and advice on reaching Net Zero, including social science evidence on the role of households in delivering Net Zero and how government, businesses and other actors can encourage and support households in this transition. Alongside the Seventh Carbon Budget the CCC also plans to publish policy advice on illustrative policies which could deliver the pathways. Different policy approaches will have different costs, impacts and benefits for different households. This deliberative public dialogue project supported by Sciencewise will convene a citizens’ panel to inform the CCC’s understanding of public perspectives around the acceptability of illustrative policies, and the distribution of costs and costs savings across society perceived by the public as acceptable.
